London's Imperial College along with investment program Enterpreneur First announce a partnership to bring the benefits of emerging Bitcoin technology to the academic community. The fruit of the collaboration is to support student innovation in the field of new cryptocurrency-related startups, including Bitcoin. The program is to be targeted at students of mathematics, computer science, engineering and economics, encouraging their innovation in combining these fields with Bitcoin technology. An additional incentive is to be provided by a special fund set up by Enterpreneur First, guaranteeing prizes of up to £3,000 for the best projects, as well as scholarships and single project grants of up to £500. There are also plans for training sessions and workshops with guest mentors involved in the Bitcoin community and related projects. Additional support for students taking part in Bitcoin projects is to be provided by the operation of the already established Imperial Bitcoin Forum. This multidisciplinary forum, consisting of scholars from different departments, is to work together to make mentoring and education available to all students interested in the technology. William Knottenbelt, co-organizer of the Imperial Bitcoin Forum: We reached out to various university departments to gauge interest in the topic, and I have to say we were blown away by the positive response. We were able to bring together professors, teachers, researchers and scholars from departments such as mathematics, electronic engineering, computer science and economics." The participants of the newly formed forum, as well as representatives from EF and the university, collectively emphasize that Bitcoin has already emerged from its early days as a "cyberlibertarian hobby" and is gradually becoming a powerful peer-to-peer platform with enormous economic potential capable of revolutionizing global finance. Representatives of Enterpreneur First do not hide their enthusiasm resulting from the cooperation that has occurred and from the bitcoin and block chain technology itself. As its creators admit, the inspiration for the project comes from the United States. A similar project has already been initiated by MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Matt Clifford EF: EF's mission is to support the most talented European developers working on revolutionary technologies. We see huge potential in block chain technology, which could change entire industries in the future. For this reason, partnering with one of the world's leading universities to support developments in this field is all the more exciting."
