Since 2 days there has been a similar event but for now it is not known who is responsible for it.   The first suspect may be CoinWallet.eu itself, which after the experiment was not entirely successful has officially announced that the test will be repeated once again. The wave of criticism from the bitcoin community that flooded CoinWallet.eu may have led to the fact that this time the company may want to do it without drawing attention to itself and without announcing the exact date of the second test. Of course, this is one of the unconfirmed theories.   At the outset it should be emphasized that there is no reason for concern and the attacker only loses money (about 1 - 1.5 BTC/h). There was no clogging of the network which is doing quite well and, as in the previous Stress Test, the transactions oscillate around 14-20MB and do not grow. Most transactions with standard commissions go through normally after 1-3 confirmations.   During a Spam Attack, however, we advise all those who care about time to increase the commission beyond the standard. The new Bitocin Core 0.10.2 client has a very useful feature that will tell you the estimated time to confirm a transaction depending on the set commission.     In other clients, there is also usually an option to manually set the commission, we recommend that it should not be less than 0.0006 BTC if you want an instant transfer in the first block. In other cases 0.0001 BTC is sufficient (2-4 confirmations)     The following records were broken during this attack:   The largest transaction in terms of data size, almost 1MB: https://blockchain.info/tx/bb41a757f405890fb0f5856228e23b715702d714d59bf2b1feb70d8b2b4e3e08   How come a transaction takes up so much space ?   Just look at one of the addresses that participated in this transaction: https://blockchain.info/pl/address/19VAb9zAhpWLaWfEuqw9HXup2zaNoNPPyE - More than 13 thousand transactions of 0.0001BTC each flowed to it.   200 thousand transactions during 24 hours. This is an absolute record so far. Even during the last Stress Test the number of these transactions was close to the daily average. The current attack must therefore be much larger.     There was also 43 BTC in transaction fees during the last 24 hours. (This is not a record which is 305 BTC but it is well above average)   For now we don't know who is spamming the network and why, but we know how to fight it. It's enough to use higher commissions so that the attacker, in order to achieve the desired effect, will also have to raise them, which increases the cost of such an attack enormously. We should also remember, that this type of attack is not dangerous for the network, it can only be troublesome for users, who with low commissions (or no commissions at all) will wait longer than usual. At the moment transactions without commission can wait up to 25 blocks or about 4-5 hours (of course this time is approximate). Transactions with a commission of 0.0006 BTC should already wait for 1 block.     Tags attack bitcoin Blockchain btc Spam spam attack stress test
