Theta Network, a blockchain-based media sharing platform, has added Sony's European research division as a verifier for its network. Sony to launch Theta Network node As we've just learned, Sony Europe's R&D center in Brussels now has blockchain expertise and will look to "further improve the global user experience of the Theta Network." In other words, the electronics giant is joining a blockchain project that wants action in the mulitmedia market. Recall that back in 2016, Sony participated in a funding round conducted by Theta Labs, the team responsible for the aforementioned blockchain-based project. At that stage, it was only about collecting the first funds that are necessary to start designing the online platform. Magdalena Wasowska, director of Sony Europe R&D Centre Europe Brussels Laboratory, says that blockchain technology can provide effective "tools to manage licenses and rights." In a press release, she noted: 'At the R&D center, we share Theta Network's passion for decentralised technologies and are excited about the opportunities that blockchain technology can offer creators. In addition to Sony, Theta's board members include Google, Samsung, Binance and Blockchain Ventures. Part of the network today is THETA, a native token that is the central tool in the platform's micropayment system. Currently, the network has 2740 nodes. Blockchain in the entertainment market Blockchain is gaining more and more interest and application in the entertainment market. It allows not only to protect the copyright of the creators, but also to increase their income. Today, for example, a new album by Kings of Leon will be released. Interestingly, its release will also be accompanied by the emission of NFT tokens. These tokens will enable fans not only to legally download the band's newest songs in a digital version, but also guarantee various privileges related to the band's live performances (access to seats close to the stage). Grimes, Elon Musk's wife and a popular singer, is also selling the copyrights to her graphics via blockchain. Her 10 NFTs were sold for $5.8 million in less than 20 minutes.
