The man known as the "Jesus of Bitcoin," Roger Ver, gave his vision of heaven and hell in the cryptocurrency industry in a recent podcast. Speaking on the "Follow the White Rabbit" podcast, Ver told host Alex Kehay that emerging technological systems like cryptocurrencies could change the fate of personal sovereignty. Heaven and hell Roger Ver is a Bitcoin Cash advocate and executive chairman of Bitcoin.com. He earned the title "Jesus of Bitcoin" by investing in a number of cryptocurrency start-ups not long after Bitcoin was created. Referring to the U.S. government's persistent intrusion into citizens' privacy - with the help of corporations like Apple and Google - Ver said cryptocurrencies could bring information control back to individuals. "My greatest hope is that these new technological systems will enable people to have more control over their own lives and more control over their own destiny, their own privacy and their own information," - Roger Ver said. However, Ver admits that the same technology could be used to expand surveillance even further. After all, public blockchains leave behind transaction traces that can be used to monitor a person's financial transactions. "My biggest nightmare is that the exact opposite will happen. It could end up being one of those things, and it's up to us to decide which of those paths we take." - Ver said. The Chinese government, has long acknowledged that it wants to use blockchain to monitor the interactions of its citizens. Blockchain is trustworthy One feature of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is that they do not require authoritative oversight. According to Ver, the encryption technology that blockchain has brought to the fore is a far more trustworthy "authority" than any human element. In short, Ver believes that mathematics is "smarter" than ISPs and governments. He said: "If you have to trust someone to withhold your information, it doesn't work out very well. So I'm a much bigger fan of building encryption software that doesn't have to trust anyone. You can rely on the rules of mathematics to know that you're not being spied on, rather than trusting your ISP, or trusting the government not to spy on you."
