Ocean Builders, a company that builds "floating, off-grid sea houses," has bought an old Australian cruise ship and renamed it "Satoshi." Now the company plans to create a cryptocurrency hub on it, bringing together entrepreneurs and digital nomads off the coast of Panama. In the announcement, Ocean Builders COO Chad Elwartowski, said the ship will become an innovation hub. It will offer a unique space where crypto entrepreneurs can build, create and network: "We are looking forward to creating a center for technology and innovation here in Panama. Our goal is to find a way to live sustainably at sea and chart new waters on this new frontier." The ship was built in 1991 and previously had the name Pacific Dawn. It has since been operated by Princess Cruises and P&O Australia. P&O's parent company, Carnival Corporation, decided to sell the ship due to the pandemic and its impact on the cruise industry. The cryptocurrency ship is named after the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC). According to Elwartowski, there will be restaurants, casinos, medical services and a water park on board. Satoshi will anchor in the Gulf of Panama, an island where many cryptocurrency exchanges are registered. In addition to US dollars, all payments on the ship will be paid in Bitcoins. From 25 to 50 thousand per cabin The first 200 of the 777 cabins will be sold in auctions scheduled for November 5-28. The cabins are priced between $25,000 and $50,000, however buyers must also pay ongoing monthly fees. The cabins will be sold stacked to give affiliated businesses the opportunity to purchase adjacent spaces. "Our idea for families with children is to buy a balcony or ocean view room for the parents and buy a less expensive interior room across the hall for the kids. We'd like to think of your cabin as your bedroom, while your living room is the rest of the ship." If all goes according to plan, Satoshi will be available for occupancy as early as 2021. According to Marine Insight, Elwartowski and his Thai girlfriend were accused of violating Thailand's sovereignty last year. They reportedly attempted to occupy a maritime home off the coast of Phuket Island. The house was reportedly seized by the Thai Navy and arrest warrants were issued.
