A blockchain-based application has been launched to facilitate pandemic travel. ICC AOKpass The app, called ICC AOKpass, allows users to instantly verify their COVID-19 status. Dorjee Sun, CEO of blockchain company Perlin, said for CIR Magazine that ICC AOKpass "uses a common global standard that can be deployed and used anywhere in the world today. It can adapt to country-specific rules and allows users to instantly verify COVID-19 compliance status anywhere, anytime." ICC AOKpass has been tested by several companies, including Singapore-based Energy Drilling and International SOS. These companies selected crew members en route to the drilling rig and performed a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for COVID, then recorded the results in the app. The results were sent to the client and helped facilitate entry into Thailand. Juliana Gim, managing director of International SOS Singapore, said the successful testing of ICC AOKpass clarifies how to resume travel safely in light of the coronavirus pandemic. "The successful pilot of the ICC AOKpass with Energy Drilling is encouraging as it marks an important step in our journey and aims to implement a trusted and standardised global system that will facilitate resumption across multiple industries. We hope that over time it will be widely adopted to facilitate a fast, safe and secure return to work." The pandemic has inspired blockchain companies to look at how they can help ease travel restrictions. Leveraging blockchain A few days ago, we wrote about Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs releasing a report explaining how blockchain technology and IT services can be used to fight corruption. Earlier this month, we learned that Dutch logistics company, Portbase, successfully completed the first phase of its integration with blockchain platform, TradeLens. Together, the two companies will handle operations and key processes for the ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Tags Blockchain covid19 coronavirus travel
