Polish computer scientists have enjoyed a good reputation around the world for many years. High, often winning places in international computer science and mathematics olympiads (both in teams and individually) confirm their excellent intellectual form and determination to succeed. The same is true for specialists in the ever-changing and challenging blockchain industry. In the Stellar project you will find Bartek Nowotorski (programmer), in Maker and DAI there are Bartek Kiepuszewski (Head of Product) and Jacek Czarnecki (General Counsel), Tomasz Drwięga takes care of code development in Parity Technologies, and Marta Piekarska supervises the Hyperledger ecosystem. Traces of Poles can also be found on GitHub in projects such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. There is talk of a specific gene-mix supported by the Central European economic situation. One thing is certain - we are strong in technology, we want not only to support innovation, but also to be its driver. That is why more and more Polish universities notice the need to educate blockchain programmers (and not only!). The new industry requires skilled workers, who only a few years ago had the opportunity to hear for the first time about the commercial application of blockchain technology. The Association Blockchain Poland (known primarily for organizing the largest network of Blockchain Business meetups in Poland) has come up with an initiative to launch another branch of its activity called Blockchain Devs, whose aim is the practical education of IT professionals who want to associate their professional life with blockchain. The first, pilot meeting of the Blockchain Devs series was held at the Collegium Da Vinci in Poznań. The university has already demonstrated its pioneering attitude by engaging in the development of the blockchain industry, e.g. by launching a specialization in Blockchain Technologies within the Faculty of Management Information Technology. Not surprisingly, the first edition of Blockchain Devs was met with considerable interest. "Among the participants of the workshop you could observe diversity. Students, programmers, business owners - all wanted to learn more, felt the hunger for knowledge. The innovation brought by blockchain technology is changing the status quo in many industries. I am happy to see the involvement of universities, their efforts in spreading practical knowledge about blockchain is invaluable." - Adrian Hetman, trainer of the first Blockchain Devs. The university is not resting on its laurels. Already on 29 May, there will be another meeting as part of Blockchain Devs - this time with Rafał Kiełbus, well-known in the blockchain community, who will lead a practical workshop on the basics of cryptocurrencies. On May 19, the inaugural Blockchain Devs meeting was held at the Wrocław University of Technology. Coordinator of the event on behalf of the Wroclaw University of Technology, Dr. Grzegorz Filcek did not hide his satisfaction: Despite the fact that the workshop lasted almost four hours, you could not notice the fatigue of the people present in the hall, who with commitment participated in both the lecture and workshop parts. The audience had the opportunity to try their hand in the world of blockchain technology / cryptocurrencies and learn about the most important tools used in the operation of Bitcoin or Ethereum. The research circle plans to organize cyclic, open workshops related to blockchain, to which well-known personalities from the industry will be invited. The Blockchain Poland Association is looking for companies willing to join the initiative by supporting local editions in terms of content, finances or media. Students and university representatives from other cities who are interested in organizing meetings can contact Blockchain Poland on cooperation.
