It happened! President Donald Trump has signed into law a stimulus package to help Americans weather the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. More money will be pumped into the market. Trump and an important bill The president signed the entire package while at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This means that the American government will avoid the so-called "shutdown" (temporary closure of some federal institutions). Recall that the package was voted by the U.S. Congress exactly on December 21. The program is worth as much as USD 900 billion. As a result, Americans will once again receive cash allowances (in the form of a transfer or check) - this time in the amount of USD 600 (in the spring it was USD 1200 and USD 500 for each child). Effect of negotiations U.S. citizens have been waiting six months for the package. The negotiations between the government and congressmen from the Republican and Democratic camps had been going on since the summer. The latter wanted to be more generous and pay citizens even 2000 USD per person. It was the Republicans who sought to lower the amount. Surprisingly, the final agreed amount of $600 did not satisfy Trump himself, who said on Tuesday that it was "absurdly low." He immediately called on Congress to raise it to $2,000 (which is the figure proposed by Democrats, formally his political rivals). It was not clear whether the president would sign the bill. Ultimately, he decided not to veto it. In turn, today in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives there will be a vote on increasing the amount of direct support to 2000 USD. Politicians from the Republican camp say that they are still against such measures. Only that they have a majority only in the Senate. Congress also plans to override Trump's veto of the defense spending bill for fiscal year 2021, which passed with the support of a majority of House Republicans from both the Republican and Democratic parties.
