Bakkt, the long-awaited Bitcoin (BTC)-based futures platform owned by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has begun testing its services. We learn this from an official tweet dated July 22. According to the tweet, the tests started yesterday and are ongoing with the cooperation of users from all over the world. Bakkt - the great hope of the market According to the platform's owners and market observers, the introduction of Bitcoin-based futures will help increase the participation of institutional clients in the cryptocurrency market. The platform initially planned to launch tests in June. Then some complications arose. Regulators, such as the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission, had to examine the platform's security procedures and its possible impact on the markets. Last week, Sam Doctor, managing director and strategist at Fundstrat Global Advisors, predicted that full trading in Bakkt futures would begin this quarter. He said: "There seems to be a mass of decision makers ready to get on board on the first day of Bakkt's launch, and the sales team is gaining customers among brokers, market makers, sales desks (...)." Cryptocurrency problems in the US The Bakkt launch could have a huge impact on the market and as "good news" it is much needed today. The debates about cryptocurrencies are ongoing in the US. Even Donald Trump has spoken about BTC and LibraCoin, but he surprised with his negative approach to digital currencies. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin also made similarly cool statements. Congressman Brad Sherman, on the other hand, admitted in an interview with Bloomberg that he favors banning digital currencies. He also emphasized their small importance to the market: "Bitcoin is a small child. You can't buy a pack of gum with Bitcoin." All this made some people even start to fear that the US might ban cryptocurrencies, which, however - on close analysis - seems very unrealistic today. However, all market observers agree that the launch of Bakkt will have a positive impact on the course of cryptocurrencies.
