The rumors that have been circulating more and more in recent weeks turn out to be true. Braintree, a PayPal subsidiary, has officially confirmed that it is currently working on a service to accept bitcoin using its mobile app. The information was personally announced by Braintree CEO Bill Ready at yesterday's TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco - a very popular event in the tech industry. Acceptance will be available through an app - One Touch. This is Braintree's first baby since PayPal acquired the company last year. One Touch is, as its producers assure, a pioneering app on the market, combining the convenience, simplicity and flexibility of mobile transactions with the security that Braintree and PayPal have so far guaranteed. The app has been available for a month on iOS and in beta version on Android, but when specifically it will enable transactions in BTC, we don't know yet. Braintree has started a close collaboration with Coinbase for this purpose - currently one of the market leaders in bitcoin payment processing platforms for business with over 1.6 million customer wallets and 36,000 merchant accounts worldwide. This information was officially confirmed on the blogs of both Braintree and Coinbase itself. Coinbase assures that Braintree customers will receive all the amenities that Coinbase customers have enjoyed so far, including a fixed 1% commission on transactions (for the first $1 million in sales) However, none of the companies give a precise date when the service will be available and fully functional, but they all jointly assure of a solid commitment to the project in the coming months. Wanting to accept payments in bitcoin, merchants working with Braintree will need to open a separate account with Coinbase and link it to their account on Braintree. The option to integrate with Coinbase directly through Braintree is not yet available. Those interested should send an email to ades: coinbase@getbraintree.com. This will allow them to receive regular notifications when the project is completed and released. In this way, we can also apply for the upcoming beta SDK version of the application to be made available to us. Are all these reports already a confirmation of the fact as PayPal itself is seriously trying to accept bitcoin? All indications are that it is. Solid proof of this is additionally provided by a video shared by PayPal on YouTube yesterday as well. The one-minute promo features the "voice of the social economy" speaking to us with the words "Our phone is our wallet. We can spend bitcoins with one touch, out of pocket." In his own words, Bill Ready assures that the launch of the partnership with Coinbase is "PayPal's first step into bitcoin," but for now, "It's through the Braintree platform." Thus, everything indicates that the integration of Bitcoin and PayPal is just a matter of time. Certainly, however, a lot depends on how successful the collaboration between Braintree and Coinbase is and whether the new service proves to be a success, both from the technical side and from the perspective of consumer adoption.
