Edward Snowden, seeing what the powers that be are doing during the coronavirus pandemic, is concerned about the future of our world. He believes that the temporary measures being put in place today to limit our freedoms will stay with us permanently. In other words, states will be able to surveillance us better. Snowden: universal surveillance is slowly becoming a reality On the one hand, advanced citizen surveillance measures are helping to combat the spread of the Wuhan virus. This is the bright side of the new technology. But there is also the other side of the coin. Edward Snowden claims that the new surveillance solutions being implemented will now stay with us for longer. Thus, they will pose a threat to our privacy. The famous fugitive from the U.S. and CIA whistleblower said in a recent interview that if the surveillance technology becomes more widespread (which is actually happening now), politicians and services will have a hard time giving it up later. So we should fear not so much artificial intelligence, or modern technology in general, but - again! - of the people in power. What may await us? Today in the media there is a growing narrative that China won the pandemic because it used drastic methods, but also modern technology that allowed it to find citizens in the society who were at risk of catching the coronavirus. Let's also remember that there has been a registry of people there for some time now, combined with a truly Orwellian rating system. This has all helped, but it sounds very scary at the same time. Like the world from the famous novel "1984". So now Edward Snowden suggests that circumstances such as the current pandemic can be cynically used by politicians around the world to build such systems and use already introduced new laws restricting freedoms to increase surveillance of the public. This also applies to payments. Even in Poland some stores refuse to accept banknotes and coins because they carry germs. It is possible that this is a global prelude to the elimination of cash and the creation of digital currencies of central banks. In such a world, cryptocurrencies may prove to be one of the last bastions of economic freedom. Tags Edward Snowden surveillance artificial intelligence
