The Trusted Third Party portal reports disturbing news. A group of hackers reportedly broke into the website of the National Bank of Poland (NBP). Who were they? And what were their goals? NBP a victim of hackers? "In the repository of evidence of intrusions, known for its reliability, you can find a trace of an interesting intrusion that occurred before February 21, 2020. The victim of the intrusion was the website of the National Bank of Poland, and the intruder decided to post a short text there to prove his skills. - We read on the portal. Trusted Third Party made a quick investigation. It turns out that a group of Vietnamese hackers, consisting of young people, mostly students, is behind the intrusion. Fortunately, as it assures itself, it had no ill intentions. The NBP website supposedly became a target "quite randomly, because it turned out that it was possible to break into it". It was a form of "entertainment" for the cyber-burglars. "A cursory review of the achievements of authors hiding under the pseudonym lulzkid indicates that they may come from Asia and belong to a dying species of hackers. On the hijacked websites they post their appeals to the world or greetings to their friends, while in reality they could make a lot of mess on the Polish financial market". - wrote the author of the article on Trusted Third Party before he got to more detailed information about the hackers. The effects of the malicious attack Actually, nothing bad has happened. NBP itself has not issued any announcement on the matter. For now, the information is only circulating on the Internet and has not been confirmed by the authorities. However, it is worth considering what would happen if a malicious hacker carried out the attack. Taking control over the website of the central bank, it is possible to publish there some messages about the level of interest rates, which would be dangerous for the stability of the zloty exchange rate. It is especially dangerous now, when we have a growing inflation in Poland, and thus the market expects more and more firm actions from the Monetary Policy Council. Moreover, the very evidence that the website was hacked could be a strong blow to our currency. If the portal's reports are true, it is yet another proof that the IT systems of the Polish government need to be reformed. Tags hacker attack on the nbp website hackers nbp hacking attack
